Make your own aluminium lantern

Fill an empty aluminium can with water and place in the freezer until frozen solid. After you remove the can, wash of the ink and patterns on the can, to find a shiny surface underneath.

Look around for a pattern or design which will look good with dots and holes. Try looking around for tin-punching folk art or even leather patterns. Using a pencil, draw your circles, stars triangles and other shapes on to your tin, just remember, it may look messy and unprofessional in pencil, but when it is lit up, it will look much nicer.

Now using a thick needle, or even a chile, punch or poke out the image with evenly spaced dots. If this is taking a long time, your ice may melt, or go soft, feel free to throw you can back in a freezer for a few hours until it hardens up again..

Make sure to make some larger holes around the top of the can so you can hang the can up somewhere using wire.

Carefully remove the top of the can using a sharp knife and drop a small candle inside.
